For Those Who Are Confused....

I know a lot of people have been hearing McCain ads that claim Obama/Biden do not support "clean coal". Whether they do or not is actually in question. But they SHOULDN'T. No one should support "clean coal" because it's like supporting the tooth fairy or Santa Claus (close your eyes, Virginia). It simply does not exist.

This is why "clean coal" is a farce. Because even if it was possible to sequester all the carbon that's created when you burn coal, you still wouldn't be able to undo the environmental damage that is incurred during the acquisition of the coal.

So there you go, clean coal - it's about as clean as a flea-infested, mud-encrusted street rat (or a fast-talking politician). For more information, check out this article from the Washington Post.

By worst, I meant that you're bad at retiring. Not bad at blogging. You're awesome at blogging. So stay bad at retiring.

Yeah, the sad thing is people believe what they hear without taking the time to do any research for themselves.

It's a good thing you can't keep a loud woman quiet!

unfortunately no one understands what the term "Clean Coal" refers to. It has to do with the power plant, not the harvesting of coal (which I admit is destructive). To produce "Clean Coal," it is heated in a chamber with no oxygen (using waste heat), driving all of the "useful stuff" out of the coal as a gas. The "useful stuff" is then burned in a furnace to boil water, etc. While there are still carbon emissions from the "useful stuff," the amount is significantly decreased, and there are hardly any of the other pollutants as simply burning coal.

The problem is the candidates get on the "Sound Bytes"
If the politicians would put in one tenth of the effort to get truely alternative systems going in this country as they do talking about them, we would be better off.
But until they find a way to harness all the hot air......

Here's some more 'Grist' for the Mill. The article is a few years old, but then again, the problems of strip mining aren't resolved...
