#182 - Technologically Challenged

Joining Melinda's Techonology-Free Day Challenge

Melinda, over at Elements In Time, came up with a great challenge for the month of March. It is to take one day a week and make it a Technology-Free Day. No TV, no internet, no techno gadgets of any sort for 24 hours. This is a tough one for me. Not the tv and gadget part, but the internet. I love to cruise the blogosphere, check my Yahoo! Groups, and play long, drawn out games of Scrabulous with my sister. And I like to do these things every frickin' day.

So I'm gonna step waaaaayyyyy out of my comfort zone and keep everything powered down on Sundays. For twenty-four hours straight.

Now, I was gonna get all philosophical here and praddle on about how difficult it can be to find a balance between our online lives and our real world responsibilities, but you all face the exact same issues, so why bother. Instead, I'll amuse you with one of my favorite jokes:

Two pretzels were walking down the street. One was a salted.

HA! Gets me every time! One thousand four hundred and forty straight minutes with me and my great jokes. Dude, my family is so LUCKY!

If you want to join the challenge, it's easy (the 'joining part', not the challenge itself). The rules are listed here at Melinda's Blog.

C'mon. You know you want to. Just do it already.

Stop me if you've heard this one:

A string walks into a bar. Bartender says, "Sorry, we can't serve strings here. You'll have to leave."

The string goes outside, musses up his ends, gets himself all tangled up, and goes back in.

The bartender says, "Hey, aren't you that string I just told to leave?"

The string says, "Nope, I'm a frayed knot."

A proton walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey, can I get you a drink?"

"No thanks," says the proton.

"Really?" asks the bartender. "I mean, it's a bar. That's what it's for. Are you sure you don't want something?"

"Yep," says the proton. "I'm positive."

Okay, I'd better stop now.

Ha! That is a great joke.

I'm doing the challenge too and it will be a good one, I think. A challenge but one that we all really need.

Wow...so, I guess we won't be calling you on Sunday anymore...sure will be quiet around here...

Hey, "play long, drawn out games of Scrabulous with my sister" what am I, chopped liver?

:)

I don't know about the challenge, but a man walked into a bar and said, "Ouch!"

:)

LMAO! Yeah, the "frayed knot" is one of my other favorites but I'd never heard the proton one! Love it!

Wendy - Let out a snort so loud on that one that it scared the dog! :-)

Now I can't help myself...

A neutron walks into a bar and says, "How much for a beer?"

The bartender says, "Hey, for you, no charge."

--

So this hem walks into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender says "We don't serve stitchery in here; you'll have to leave."

The hem doesn't move from his stool, so the bartender throws him out.

After landing on the sidewalk, the hem finds a broken bottle, and decides he's going to get his revenge. He comes a bit unravelled as he bursts back into the bar.

The bartender looks at him, and says "Hey, aren't you a piece of stitchery I just tossed out of here?"

The hem answers "I'm a frayed sew."

Okay, that's it. I promise.

Probably.

I'm in, too, but having a hard time picking a good day to power down. Weekends not an option due to my sweetie. Mondays and Thursdays, I have to be online for volunteer work. Tuesdays and Fridays, possible last minute volunteer need to be online. Wednesdays, need access to search for recipes to use up all the CSA stuff.

I just can't turn it off. I am soooo good at rationalizing...

Hey, are you doing the Stress Less, too?

Burbanmom said...

Chile -- TOTALLY EMBARASSED here to say that I just don't think I can find 30 uninterrupted minutes every single day for quiet time. With two little ones, the word "quiet" has lost all meaning here. The time I do have to myself (early morning and late evening) are spent updating my blog and reading everyone else's.

I have been sneaking in a little bit of pleasure-reading now and again, but not sure "hiding in the bathroom while pretending to take a big crap so I can read another chapter of Affluenza" is really comprable to meditation. But it's as close as I get here at Casa Burban.

If you'll allow three separate instances of ten minutes each, I could probably do it. What do you say? Can you make an exception for a frazzled SAHM? Because even a little reflective time is better than none, right?

So how, I ask, am I supposed to turn off the computer now that you have added jokes???
E4, these are hilarious!
You can leave as many jokes on my blog as you want...on those days the computer is on...er...

I don't think I can do this. Can I count 3 days of 'not driving' for one 'not on the computer' day?

Burbanmom said...

Leslie, of course you may! BUT you have to leave a joke here first! :-)

I'm flexible, Burbanmom, because this is about reducing YOUR stress. If my "rules" don't work for you, adapt them. Even 5 minutes a day spent in quiet is better than 0 minutes a day!

Hiding in the bathroom to read! I thought I was the only SAHM tht did that!

How do you get 6 elephants in a volkswagen?

3 in the front, and 3 in the back.

leslie said...

What did Tarzan say when he saw the elephants coming over the hill?

"Here come the elephants!"

Burbanmom said...

OK, OK! I give! You can do it, Leslie... but only if you stop leaving jokes! ;-)
