Hmmmmm..... Very Interesting....

Have you joined your local CSA yet? Started planning a Victory Garden? Checked out the local Farmer's Market?

Yeah... based on this article on CNN, you might want to put those things on your to-do list....

Have you been spying on me?! This is exactly what I was going to prattle on about on my blog today. A little review of the NYC choices. (I was wondering why Percy was following me from room to room with his little beady eyes.) I was just researching a few CSAs for this spring. I always prefer farmers markets for the choice factor, but I feel obligated to support the CSAs too. I can't do the winter CSA though. Who can eat all of those potatoes? I would be the shape of a potato by spring....and not a nice svelte fingerling either.

Wow! Big changes in what we can afford. I filled up my incredibly ineffecient minivan last night for a whopping $66 dollars. Out here in California, our gas prices are already $3.65 a gallon.

Imagine how that will affect our food prices. I've been a dedicated farmers' market shopper but, as organicneedle points out, I should probably buy into a CSA as well.

I read the article and I just love how at the bottom it says (paraphrased) "If you have lost everything and are in dire straights, we want to hear from you and maybe even feature your miserable life." Well sorry, but doing the riot for austerity means we have plenty of money for the things we really need.
We shop at a store that sells local produce as well as bulk items. And we are ramping up our garden this year.

Burbanmom, thank you SO MUCH for cluing me into CSAs. I figured that since I was in the city, I'd either have to go to the farmer's market (bad idea, since i'd spend all my money on local pottery & art!), go to the grocery, or do what I guess you'd call a "co-op", where you get a plot of land and farm it yourself. A CSA sounds like exactly what I need - someone to hand me veggies and say "eat this!" :) It never occured to me that such a thing would exist! I started looking and there are several in Nashville!

I am so excited. Thank you so much.
