OK, folks, remember on Monday when we got all pissed off about Bush altering the Endangered Species Act? Well, I just checked the DOI and the comment period on the proposed rules has officially opened. To read the proposed rule changes, go here. To comment on these changes, go here.
Don't feel like you have to get all fancy and long-winded (although that's great if you do!). But please, please, for the love of Mike, LEAVE A COMMENT OPPOSING THESE CHANGES! Even if it's just as simple as "I deeply oppose these proposed changes and urge the DOI to reject these rules!".
Just don't let slide this one through. Encourage others to leave their comments as well. Please, we really need EVERYONE to voice their opinion.
Please. Seriously. I'm begging. And that doesn't happen often.

Erin, either I have 'teh dumb' or my IE is not working properly...I can't figure out how to actually leave a comment on there! The FAQ says:
"How can I file an electronic comment or submission using Regulations.gov?
Once you locate a rule or document that has been posted by the Agency for comment/submission by using one of the search functions on the Regulations.gov site, click on the corresponding "comment" icon in the "Add Comments" column to access the Public Comment and Submission Form where comments and supporting information or other public submissions can be submitted to the Agency on the posted rule or action."
But...I don't see any icon in the "Add Comments" column.
Will try at home tonight with Firefox, I guess. Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else has the same troubles.
I submitted your post to http://Hugg.com. It's kind of like a Digg for environmental issues.

Anyhow, since the site is owned by Discovery, there's a chance you can get a lot of exposure if your readers go and vote on it. :)
Iris, yeah, WTF?!??! There was an icon there when I sent my comments this morning. But now, you're right... it's gone...
CONSPIRACY!!! AAAAGGGGGHHHH!
Looks like we might have to phone them in! Or just keep trying!
Hey Burbs - Bush Admin closed online comments (wtf?!) but NRDC is going to take comments for people, print them out, and bring them in.
Here's a link:

but they don't have the process set up yet. I thought they might post about it today but not yet.
This may have something to do with it.
Stifling Public Comment On Species Act

I just saw this. You cannot email your comments in, it's a new rule! Obviously they're anxious to hear from us, huh!
Hmmmmm....... I didn't leave a comment this morning because I wanted to get my thoughts together, but you are right, the button was there when I checked it and now it is gone.
Here is the link to the NRDC letter which they will add your signature to, print and hand deliver to the Federal Government when the comment period closes.
NRDC Message
How to leave a comment:
1. Go to Regulations.Gov
2. Click in middle box entitled Comment or Submission, and type "Endangered Species Act" (without the quotes) and click "Go"
3. Click the first document that pops up in the search "Interagency Cooperation Under the Endangered Species Act "
4. On the 4th line on the next page there is a little icon to comment. Give as much info as you feel comfortable giving, along with your comment.
5. Ascend the stairs, and open the door marked "Beware of the leopard" to finish submitting.
The search page assigns a temporary cookie to your results, and as such the link given this morning expired. Likely, anything submitted through that link would be seen as a duplicate anyhow. So it's better to do it this way.
I was able to leave a comment; try going here:

Thanks for the great post, as always.
I got my comment in. Now i suppose I will be on the FBI subverssive list. Cool. I always wanted to be a subverssive!
Well, at least you goaded me into commenting before the government got tired of listening. Seriously, I hate doing that sort of thing, so I assure you, your begging was the only reason I did it.
I saw your blog today for the first time. It's great to see someone else try to make a difference. Please take a minute and check out my blog, I am Earth.
Keep up the great work,
Barry.
